Personalized Learning Challenge

  1. Goal: What is one problem you would like to solve or one type of learning you would like to promote in your classroom?

I would love to be able to incorporate more student driven content in my classroom this year, as in creating a structure for students to explore topics they are curious about and want to explore.

  1. Type: Which of the three types of pedagogy learned in this lesson would be best to achieve your goal? Why?

PBL is completely aligned with this goal. In PBL, students are defining, exploring, and solving problems on their own/with small groups. This allows them to drive content that they are interested in , while the teacher can provide guidance, structure, etc.

  1. Steps: What are the steps you want to take to get started?

This is highly challenging for me as we are developing and rolling out new curriculum this year with tight timelines, on the fly assessment creation, and constant editing throughout the process. I think that the first step would be to find a good spot in the curriculum where students have a good learning base to where they can establish well grounded questions that they can research and expand upon.

  1. Success: How will you know if you are successful?

If I can actually pull this off!

  1. Timing: When do you want to try this?

I would like to begin working on this during the 1st trimester of this school year- hopefully introduce the project by the end of September and go from there.
